Ingredients: 2 cups flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/4 cup shortening 1/4 cup milk Heat oven to 450 F. Measure flour, baking powder, and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture looks like meal. Stir in almost all the milk -- just enough to make soft, puffy, easy to roll dough. (Too much milk makes dough sticky, too little makes biscuits dry). Round up dough on lightly floured cloth-covered board. Knead lightly 20 to 25 times (30 seconds). Roll dough 1/2 inch thick and cut with floured biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet Bake about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown. Yields about 16 biscuits. |
